Summary

Under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineer, incumbent is responsible for developing and maintaining tooling, training, directing others, and all areas related to tooling to provide manufacturing with the necessary jigs, fixtures, and equipment for production of all products.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain a listing of tooling requirements and prioritizes them.

  • Produce a schedule for keeping major tooling projects on schedule.

  • Identify new tooling which would help improve efficiencies and quality.

  • Build, and direct others in the fabrication of tooling for prototypes as well as production parts.

  • Approve tooling before or as needed for production.

  • Maintain and repair tooling as needed.

  • Analyze and improve existing tooling.

  • Work with outside vendors on the development of tooling;

  • Develop additional in house tooling capabilities as needed.

  • Investigate new tooling materials and equipment for manufacturing.

  • Maintain a tooling inventory database.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Difficulty of Work

Incumbent must have moderate amount of experience and manufacturing knowledge. Incumbent should be able to work with minimal direction and provide support as needed to maintain efficient production standards while meeting commitments. Because of the somewhat complex issues related to tooling and limited resources sometimes available, the incumbent is expected to be creative in their ability to overcome obstacles.

Responsibility

Incumbent will make choices and decisions on non-routine assignments. Ability to take initiative is essential in order to effectively deal with prototype and production requirements. Errors in decisions or work will be evident in lower production efficiencies, potentially missed ship dates, and possibly lower quality standards of the finished parts.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires 98% standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing ladders. The employee may have to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a 1st shift, full-time hourly position. 6:00 to 2:30 typically but incumbent will need to be flexible. Overtime will often be required.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma.

  • Additional 2-year technical degree a benefit.

  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing plant, especially beneficial if it is in a custom, build to order environment.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Common sense.

  • Familiarity with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.

  • Must be multi-task oriented to balance several projects simultaneously, working with both internal and external sources.

  • Familiarity with IBM compatible PC and relevant software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office etc…), CAD/CAM (AutoCAD) proficiency a bonus.

  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with outside suppliers as well as internally.
