Quality Engineer

Job Description:

The quality engineer will provide technical leadership in the support and improvement of internal manufacturing processes. The QE will work with cross disciplinary teams, including corporate groups, to continuously improve quality and productivity targets through quality assurance planning and continual improvement initiatives. Will provide daily support to two proximate plants, including technical problem solving, quality system implementation and auditing, new product launch management and internal/external supplier corrective actions. Reports to the Plant Quality Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Solves or directs efforts to solve complex product quality and process related problems.

• Acts as voice of customer through new product development projects.

• Recommends internal or vendor design, manufacturing and quality control changes to improve quality and reliability.

• Gather and analyze product and process data for reporting of improvement items.

• Develops and applies quality analysis tools, as applicable, for effective root cause analysis and correction action methods.

• Scope of work includes interaction with external suppliers, operations, manufacturing systems, design, marketing, customer care, and end users.

• May occasionally support end-user problem solving visits

• Serve as subject matter expert and internal auditor for ISO9001 based quality system

• Interface on regular basis with on-site and remote design/engineering functions

• Limited supervisor duties as projects dictate

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or related field required

• 3-5 years of Quality Engineering experience of increasing responsibility in the areas of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Supplier Quality Management or related field, including at least 2 years of direct manufacturing, in plant experience

• Demonstrated project management experience and in-depth process improvement and problem solving experience (including expertise with tools and processes such as APQP, Lean, Six Sigma, PPAP, 8D, FMEA, VAVE, etc.)

• Lead auditor of competence within ISO-9001/TS-16949/AS9100 quality systems

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and statistical software

• Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and influence in a matrix organization

• Active knowledge of machining, mechanical and/or electro-mechanical manufacturing processes

• Prior supervisory experience a plus

• Fluent in English (spoken and written); Bilingual considered a strong asset

• Minimal travel

  • This will be a 2nd shift position with core hours being 12pm AM-9:00 PM M-F
