Leading and directing all matters associated with federal, domestic and international taxes, and state income taxes including strategy, planning, operations, compliance, accounting and audit defense. This role will also provide tax leadership and advice associated with the Company’s global business development activities such as mergers and acquisitions, dispositions, and licensing transactions. This role reports directly to the Chief Tax Officer.

Key objectives and deliverables:

  • Lead and direct all U.S. federal and international tax matters including technical review and oversight, including

  • Completion of all U.S. federal and state tax filings by due dates

  • Forecast U.S. domestic and international taxes for estimated tax payments

  • Oversee quarterly consolidated estimated tax process, including US IBT forecast

  • Provide oversight and review of accounting transaction flows ensuring all entries are appropriate and made within corporate control guidelines

  • Identify and lead global/international projects that create tax value and opportunity and facilitate company business objectives, including optimizing impacts from U.S. tax reform changes.

  • Lead the vigorous defense of domestic and international tax positions taken in U.S. tax filings; develop and recommend positions for resolution and/or appeal.

  • Integrate business development transactions in current compliance processes

  • Influence and monitor U.S. international tax policy, both legislative and regulatory.

  • Mentor and develop staff including career development planning, and encourage a teamwork environment.

  • Develop and nurture strong relationships with the leadership of the finance, human resources, manufacturing, research and development, and other organizations within Elanco.

  • Partner with other teams within the Elanco Tax organization to ensure accurate forecasting and reporting of U.S. results.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and international income tax rules

  • CPA strongly preferred

  • Big 4, law firm, or multinational corporate experience

  • Demonstrated strong tax planning and research skills

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projectsStrong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

  • People management experience and capabilities

  • Ability to lead and work in a team oriented environment.

  • Juris Doctorate or Masters of Tax

  • Knowledge of global transfer pricing, tax accounting, and other tax laws

Additional Information:

  • Requires travel on an as needed basis

  • May require teleconferences before/after normal work hours

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Accounting, Business or Finance

  • Minimum 10 years of federal, state and international tax experience

  • At least 3 years experience managing a team
