Parkview North Hospital Coding Specialist in Fort Wayne, Indiana
Responsible for abstracting, coding and/or verifying all inpatient and /or outpatient records, and posting manual entry charges according to established procedures and standards
Formalized acute care coding education by an AHIMA and /or AAPC program preferred. Successful completion of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology courses preferred.
One of the following credentials; RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, COC, CPC, or CCS-P required within one year of hire. This requires the incumbent to sit for and pass the exam prior to the end of one year of employment.
Preferred at least one year of acute care hospital coding experience, or two years experience in professional coding, which includes competence in using computerized abstracting and encoding system preferred.
Ability to be detail-oriented and perform tasks at a high rate of accuracy.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to type at or above the rate of 25 wpm.
Availability to work weekends.
Good multitasking skills and a willingness to learn and on the job flexibility.
