Duties and responsibilities include formulating procedures, managing daily operations, and planning the use of materials and human resources. Determine root cause of failure to perform to plan and implement countermeasures to meet expectations. Leads the continuous improvement efforts within the department.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Other duties may be assigned: * Establish functional organizational structure that supports the ONE Hill-Rom strategy.* Develop and sustain processes to improve efficiency and productivity. Work closely with the finance team to understand part life cycle, obsolescence and cost accounting (plan for every part).* Lead and support continuous improvements activities to improve processes and drive accountability. Facilitate Kaizen events.* Provide a safe work environment for employees, ensuring that accidents are investigated and countermeasures are implemented and sustained to eliminate recurrence.* Investigate defects and potential defects, and while working with engineering and employees to implement effective countermeasures.* Provide product design guidance for manufacturability, cost and quality.* Manage department budget and stay within established targets.* Develop and foster culture of improvement activity by leading, coaching, and supporting employees to produce quality products.* Lead cyclical demand reviews with North American commercial operations leadership, rental fleet team, sustaining engineering, and service.* Create and update manufacturing documents such as Job Instructions, PFMEA, Design Transfer, Manufacturing Plan and CAPP plans.* Prepare staff work schedules and assign specific duties.* Perform personnel functions such as selection, training, or evaluation.* Oversight of global adherence to Policy Deployment (PDP) and line rates* Implement, review, and manage a queue of projects ensuring the plants continuous improvement plan within the department.* Track daily, weekly, and monthly key process indicators for the department. Sustain visual management tools.* Set and achieve departmental expectations for results in Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Delivery, through yearly performance program.* Identify and reduce value stream waste, improve productivity, and reduce lead times in the department.* Working knowledge of fabrication equipment including but not limited to CNC sheet lasers, tube lasers, tube bending, machining centers, lathes, presses and rail breaks. (Programming experience preferred but not required).QualificationsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of five years of experience in operations of manufacturing or equivalent combination of education and experience both in managing people and production or engineering.* Five or more years managing personnel and complex activities, or comparable experience.* Five or more years of experience working in a mixed Union and Non-Union environment. (Preferred but not required)* Black Belt Certification in Six Sigma.
